Céu e Inferno!
Entãoooooo. Segundo dia, já dorido. E tantas bandas para ver.
Apesar do cansaço, consigo chegar ao local para o final de Lovebites.
Esta banda japonesa está a oferecer um power metal eficiente, algo
semelhante aos Babymetal.
Mesmo a tempo de passar rapidamente para os Valley e Gozu.
Não sabia bem o que esperar e... uau. Que explosão! Um set de blues
pesado e poderoso, com um grande público! Adoraria vê-los num local mais
pequeno.
Depois, bem... hora do almoço. E... é importante dizê-lo, mas o Hellfest
é impressionante por isso. Seja o que for que se queira, vegan, amante
de carne, indiano, coisas tradicionais francesas... encontra-se sempre algo
ótimo, em pouco tempo (bem .... exceto talvez gelados que podem demorar algum
tempo...), durante todo o dia, e não tão caro....
Outra viagem, é a musical... Karnivool (prog metal
da Austrália), Planet of Zeus (stoner grego), Stinky
(banda francesa de hardcore), Gaupa (heavy blues da
Suécia)... Esta é uma viagem à volta do mundo e à volta da paisagem musical...
Karnivool estava no
palco principal, o meu primeiro no palco. Nunca os tinha visto, mas sabia que
seria muito impressionante. A multidão era bastante escassa, menos pessoas do
que na quinta-feira, e provavelmente o cansaço que começa a fazer efeito.
Grande set, as pessoas eram sobretudo conhecedoras e muito interativas...
Planet of Zeus foi um
aperitivo para uma banda posterior: mandam um blues-rock/stoner
pesado, vindo de Atenas. A sua vontade de interagir com o público foi muito
apreciada!
Stinky foi
incrível! Já tinham esmagado o Warzone há alguns anos. Este ano foi um pouco um
teste, pois a vocalista deles mudou de Claire (ela/ele) para Clair (ele/ela).
Estava curioso para ver o impacto na voz e não fiquei desiludido.
Mas fiquei ainda mais impressionado com os Gaupa. São uma
jovem banda sueca, na tradição das suas bandas de blues pesado como Blues
Pills, com uma vocalista incrível: Emma Näslund. O álbum deles pode
ser um pouco aéreo, mas eles conseguiram entregar um set pesado com
vibrações doomish! A Emma tem uns tons estranhos nas notas altas que
fazem lembrar a Björk, o que é interessante e único no género.
Depois de uma pausa rápida para apanhar algo para... beber
(falaremos disso amanhã), o inferno caiu sobre mim.... O telemóvel morreu
abruptamente, obrigando-me a uma desastrosa reposição de fábrica... perdeu-se
tudo, incluindo o rascunho deste texto e a maior parte das fotografias (e não é
o fim...)
Bem, tudo bem. Trato disso mais tarde, os 1000mods estão à
minha frente, e foda-se... eles lançam umas merdas a sério! Algures entre o grungy
vibes (So many days), o stoner rock (Electric Carve),
o desert stoner (Visage)... O público estava louco (e foi só o
começo...)
Passando para o palco principal para Tom Morello, o
espírito dos RATM era... raging... Ele fez um set
alternando algumas músicas do projeto solo, alguns medleys dos RATM,
e até mesmo um pouco de Audioslave, em memória do falecido Chris
Cornell (chamem-me de mole, eu ainda choro quando começa o refrão de Like
a Stone... )
Depois... o tão esperado Shaka Ponk chegou ao MS2,
reunindo uma enorme multidão francesa e eu estava mais do que feliz por fugir
para Valley para o grande Acid King. Incrível stoner-doom.
Lento, pesado, devastador... Lori esmagou lentamente o Valley,
mandando-nos para o céu.
Depois de uma pequena viagem até Temple, pude mudar deste doom
para um pouco de black and... Emperor. Ihsahn é uma
besta como sempre e seu black metal é puro cânone.
Preparem-se para ps Fu Manchu. Os californianos mandaram um
set dos diabos!
Pode ser um pouco "chato" no álbum, soando um pouco
enlameado às vezes, mas ao vivo... maldito!!!! O fosso estava selvagem, sempre
a fazer moshing e slamming! Terminei completamente esmagado!
Bodycount como
finalizador em Warzone foi pesado, começando com Bodycount In Da House
e Raining Blood... wiiiiild! Estão nos seus cinquenta anos? Que
importa! São melhores que os Kiss!

Heaven and Hell!
Soooooo. Second day, already sore. And so many bands to see.
In spite of tiredness, I manage to arrive on site for the end of
Lovebites. This Japanese band is providing with an efficient power metal,
somehow similar to Babymetal. Just in
time to move quickly to the Valley and Gozu. I didn't know really what to
expect, and … wow. What a blast! Powerful heavy bluesy set, with a great crowd!
I'd love to see them in a smaller venue.
Then, well… time to lunch. And… it is important to say it but,
Hellfest is impressive for that. Whatever you may want, vegan, meat lover,
Indian, traditional French stuff … you always find something great, in no time
(well…. Except maybe icecreams that can take some time…),all day long, and not
so expensive….
Another trip, is the musical one… Karnivool (prog metal from
Australia), Planet of Zeus (greek stoner), Stinky (French hardcore band), Gaupa
(heavy blues from Sweden)... This is a trip all around the world and around
musical landscape…
Karnivool was in the mainstage, my first on it. I never saw them
but knew that would be very impressive. Crowd was rather scarce,fewer people
than Thursday, and probably the tiredness that starts to kick in. Great set,
people were mainly connoisseurs and really interactives…
Planet of Zeus was an appetizer for a later band: they send an
heavy blues-rock/stoner, coming from Athens. Their will to interact with the
crowd was widely appreciated!
Stinky was incredible! They've already crushed the Warzone a few
years ago. This year was a bit of a test, as their lead singer has transitioned
from Claire (she/her) to Clair (he/him). I was curious to see the impact on the
voice and was not disappointed.
But I've been even more blown away by Gaupa. They're a young
Swedish band, in the tradition of their heavy blues bands like Blues Pills,
with an incredible lead singer :Emma Näslund. Their album can be rather aerials but they
managed to deliver an heavy set with doomish vibes! Emma has some odd tones in
high notes that reminds of Björk, which is interesting as well as really unique
in the genre.
After a quick
break to catch something to…drink (we'll talk about it tomorrow), the hell fell
on me…. Phone died abruptly, forcing me to a disastrous factory reset… all
lost, including the draft of this and most of the picture (and it's not the end
of it…)
Well, OK. I'll
deal with it later, 1000mods is in front of me, and fuck… they throw some
serious shit! Somewhere between grungy vibes (So many days), stoner rock
(Electric Carve), desert stoner (Visage)... Crowd was wild (and it was only the
beginning…)
Moving to
mainstage for Tom Morello, RATM spirit was …raging…. He made a set alternating
some solo project songs, some RATM medleys, and even a bit of Audioslave stuff,
in remembrance of the late Chris Cornell (call me soft, I still cry when Like a
stone chorus starts…)
Then… the long
awaited Shaka Ponk arrived on MS2, gathering a huge french crowd and I was more
than happy to flee to Valley for the great Acid King. Awesome as stoner-doom.
Slow, heavy, devastating… Lori slowly crushed the Valley, sending us to Heaven.
After a small
travel to Temple, I was able to switch from
this doom to some black and…Emperor. As always Ihsahn is a beast as always
and its black metal is pure canon.
To get ready for Fu Manchu.
Those californians sent a hell of a set!
It may be slightly “boring”
on album, sounding rather muddy sometimes, but in live… damn!!!!
The pit was wild, always
moshing and slamming! I finished
completely crushed!
Bodycount as finisher in
Warzone was heavy, starting with Bodycount in da house and Raining blood…
wiiiiild! They're in their fifties? Who cares! They’re better than Kiss!
